A good start with waders including Spotted Redshank, Ruff 6, Green Sandpiper, and Cetti’s Warbler at Filey Dams and two Little Ringed Plover at East Lea. There were large numbers of Sandwich and Common Terns on Brigg end in the afternoon being harried by at least 3 Arctic Skuas. On 3rd 500 Common Terns, a Roseate Tern and an immature Caspian Gull on Brigg end. A  Swift over West Avenue, with a Hobby chasing hirundines at Hunmanby Gap. A Spotted Flycatcher at East Lea, with 3 Snipe, 3 Green Sandpiper, 2 Water Rail and 23 Moorhen at Filey Dams (and 33 at East Lea). On 4th a Bar-tailed Godwit on Country Park. A juv. Black Tern flew over the Brigg. An adult and juv. Roseate Tern still present. Also a Golden Plover and an Arctic Skua. A Turtle Dove was discovered in a garden shed at Hunmanby Gap. At least 4 Arctic Terns and 4 Arctic Skuas alongside Common and Sandwich Terns in Filey Bay. On 5th a Willow Tit at Butcher Haven. On 6th six Roseate Terns perched on the Brigg, with 2 Arctic Skuas, a Whimbrel and 2 Peregrines. A huge gannet feeding frenzy in the bay off the Brigg.  A Pied Flycatcher on Carr Naze on 7th. On 8th the escaped Harris’s Hawk being mobbed by Buzzard at Hunmanby Gap – four years later! On 9th two Redstarts; 1 Lesser Whitethroat; 3 Pied Flycatchers; 5 Willow Warblers inc. song; 8+ Chiffs inc song; Siskins over south in Country Park. 1,836 Mipits south at Hunmanby Gap. On 11th a cream crown Marsh Harrier north off Carr Naze. On 12th a Little Stint at East Lea. An Osprey south over Hunmanby Gap and Filey seafront. Hunmanby Gap had 2,100 Mipits, 1,900 House Martins, 460 Siskin, 200 Swallows, 29 Swifts and 2 Ospreys. On 14th the first Pink-footed Geese flew south inland of Hunmanby Gap. A Clouded Yellow butterfly towards top of Long Lane on 17th. Curlew Sandpipers were still present at Filey Dams. On 18th an unforgettable morning at Hunmanby Gap with nearly 10,000 birds passing including a record 4,300 House Martins plus over 1,000 Siskin and 3,000 Meadow Pipits (KC & PS). A 1st winter Caspian Gull in Bay corner on 19th. On 22nd a Lapland Bunting flew S along cliffs. A Short-eared Owl was present on 24th. A first for Filey and mega Brown Shrike was found at Hunmanby Gap on 25th.  A Yellow-browed Warbler was calling in willows at the back of Filey Dams (East Lea path). A Great White Egret flew south at Hunmanby Gap over the sea, and again on 28th. Six Redwing went west inland at the Gap. At Hunmanby Gap a half decent southerly passage of 137 redpoll, plus 2 Crossbill, a Brambling, and a small early dispersal of Song Thrush which presumably arrived overnight.
