Another mega and first for Filey was a White-throated Needletail found late on 9th. It drew a large crowd before disappearing overnight to Scotland. On 1st a Greenshank south at Hunmanby Gap. A Great White Egret came in off west at Hunmanby Gap on 2nd, seen again on 5th. A Jack Snipe was in the field below Long Hedge. On 3rd a Spotted Redshank flew south at the Gap. A Yellow-browed Warbler with a Long-tailed Tit flock along the boardwalk to East Pool hide but mobile, still on 6th. A lame Ruff still lingered. A Common Tern rested on the country park on 4th. 17 Grey Partridge in East Lea fields on 6th. A major surprise was four Glossy Ibis dropping briefly into East Lea. 2 Whooper Swan on sea off Primrose Valley from Hunmanby Gap plus summer plumage Great Northern Diver, several Red-throated Diver and 175 Pink-footed Goose. Two late House Martin on 7th. On 9th a White-throated Needletail was found at Carr Naze and delighted all those lucky enough to be within striking distance. A Glossy Ibis west at Hunmanby Gap was rather overshadowed. On 10th a Lapland Bunting over North Cliff. A Goosander was at East Pool. A Wheatear on Cleveland way with a Tawny Owl at Muston Grange caravan park with 2 here on 9th. Two Ruddy Shelduck flew south-east past the Brigg in the evening. On 11th a female Hen Harrier flew over Carr Naze. An adult Whooper Swan was unusually on Carr Naze pond on 12th. The first autumn Woodcock came in -off at Carr Naze on 13th. Forty Long-tailed Tits were on Long Lane, with at least 3 Brambling. A Marsh Harrier flew south at Hunmanby Gap. 250 Barnacle Geese flew south over Carr Naze, followed by another 70, another 100, another 11, another 40 totalling a new day record of 471. A possible Greenland Wheatear on Carr Naze. A Yellow-browed Warbler in Top Scrub, also on 14th. 200 Pinkfeet flew south over the Brigg.70 more Barnacles flew south on 14th. On 16th a Velvet Scoter north across the bay from Hunmanby Gap. Reighton Sands was busy with 500 Pink-footed Geese moving south inland, 7 Golden Plover north, 2 Guillemot, 8 Red-throated Diver, 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 21 Skylark, 30 Long-tailed Tit, 1 Yellow-browed Warbler at Reighton Woods, 4 Chiffchaff, 1 Blackcap at Black Cliff, 8 Goldcrest, 70 Starling, 28 Blackbird, 16 Robin, 2 Stonechat, 5 Tree Sparrow, 12 Meadow Pipit, 14 Chaffinch, 1 female Brambling, 3 Redpoll south & a Siskin north. On 17th three Grey Plover end of Brigg. A new Yellow-browed Warbler in the Tip Heligoland area. 3 Jack Snipe were in the adjacent field. Two adult Pomarine Skuas flew south, then north over the Brigg. A late Swallow north at Hunmanby Gap. A probable Long-eared Owl in off at Hunmanby Gap drifting south towards Reighton on 19th. A Ring Ouzel at Reighton Sands Golf Course. On 20th a Yellow-browed Warbler on Long Lane, and two in the orchard, churchyard area. A Firecrest in Parish Wood, with another Yellow-browed Warbler. Nine Little Gull south at Hunmanby Gap with 2 male Blackcap in clifftop scrub. On 21st a Lapland Bunting south at the Gap. A Yellow-browed Warbler at Primrose Valley pond. On 22nd 3 Twite on Carr Naze, very mobile. A Marsh Harrier flew over bay at Glen Gardens on 24th. A Little Egret flew onto the Brigg. 11 Whooper Swans (3 ad. and 8 juv.) at East Lea. An adult Mediterranean Gull south. 202 Curlew at Filey Dams at dusk. A Red-necked Grebe off Brigg today. On 27th a Short-eared Owl on Carr Naze. A late Swallow north at Hunmanby Gap on 30th. A regular Snow Bunting on Carr Naze, with two Twite at Carr Naze pond. The month ended on a high note with a Richard’s Pipit at Hunmanby Gap on 30th.
