The Avocet remained until 7th. A late Swift went over the Dams on 2nd. Two Hobbies were together at Hunmanby Gap on 3rd. A Curlew Sandpiper and a Little Stint turned up at Filey Dams the same day. A Marsh Harrier on the Dams boundary moved west. A mega biggie an Eleanor’s Falcon came in
Seabirds and waders were particularly notable this month. Low water levels at Filey Dams and East Lea pulled in some good waders. On 1st 39 Manx and a Balearic Shearwater, a juvenile Caspian Gull around the fishing boats, a flock of five Little Egrets south, and two Wheatears were seen at Carr Naze. On 2nd
A quiet month as expected, but waders and some summer visitors were starting their return journeys south. On 1st two juvenile Tawny Owls were in Martins Ravine. Two Spoonbill which headed north from Bempton landed at Filey Dams. Four Avocet went north at Hunmanby Gap inshore. On 2nd 740 Swifts went south in the morning
On 1st a single Barnacle Goose went northwest over Carr Naze, with six Shelduck, f Mandarin, m Shoveler, 4 Gadwall, 4 Tufted Duck, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Bullfinch and a Barn Owl were at East Lea, and a Water Rail in reeds by the meadow. A Red Kite flew south over the golf course from Muston
A quiet May overall. On 1st a small fall of Whitethroats occurred. Other birds present on 1st and 2nd included Red-breasted Merganser, Greenshank, Bar-tailed Godwit, Grasshopper Warbler, Cuckoo, Short-eared Owl and Ring Ouzel. A Black Redstart and local rarity Corn Bunting appeared on 3rd. A Wood Sandpiper was at Filey Dams on 9th. On 10th
April started with a Snow Bunting south and a Manxie north at Hunmanby Gap. Puffins also appeared off North Cliff in numbers with 75 counted. A Red Kite was seen on 3rd. The October Ringing Week will be held from Saturday 8th October to Sunday 16th, weather permitting. Most of the activity will be as usual in the Country Park in the top north-east corner ("the Top Scrub"). All welcome.

From Monday 7th Feb 2022, for approximately 2 weeks, the Filey Old Tip reserve will be closed. This is to allow a contractor access with heavy equipment to construct two new wildlife ponds. On completion of the work, we will be in touch again. Mark Moore (FBOG Hon Sec)
